Property Taxes got you down? Reassess with Nevada County!

Over the summer I overheard a conversation from a fellow Realtor about her property taxes and how she and her husband had called the Nevada County Assessor's office and asked to have their property value re-assessed. You see, they had just purchased their Truckee home in 2006, and according to current market valuations, their home was worth nearly $170,000 less than what they had purchased it for. Upon hearing this, I promptly went home and told my husband about their situation, as it mirrored ours; we had bought our new primary residence in September of 06, and we clearly had seen a downturn in value as well. A quick call to the assessor's office confirmed the talk: They lowered my home value by nearly $70,000, and as of this November, we will see the adjusted value resulting in lower property taxes. If you are in a similar situation, and purchased your primary residence in 2005 or 2006, I urge you to call the Nevada County Assessor's office and confirm that they are indeed lowering your home's value to today's property valuation. The number to call is: 530-265-1232
